Sanford, N.C.,-April 14, 2014--Central Electric Membership Corporation (CEMC) members have until May 9 to schedule a pickup of old, secondary refrigerators or freezers under the Fridge & Freezer Farewell program, and receive the $50 credit on their power bill.
CEMC and other cooperatives in the state contracted with the Appliance Recycling Centers of America (ARCA) in late 2011 to provide the free pickup and recycling service to their members. “Thanks to many of our members, a total of 53 freezers and 152 refrigerators were recycled since the program began. “By giving up old, inefficient appliances, the program allowed members the ability to save up to $200 a year on energy costs, “said Central EMC’s Energy specialist, Janet Jackson., “Members have not only saved energy and money, they also have assured that steel and other materials are properly recycled.”
ARCA picks up these old appliances free of charge and ensures that they are properly recycled. However, they have announced plans to close their Morrisville, NC, recycling center, and the last pickups are expected to take place no later than Friday, May 23.
To schedule your appliance pickup, call ARCA at 877.341.2310. Call center hours are 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays. You can also sign up by entering your information (use the ZIP code for your property in the co-op’s service territory) in the ARCA web form, which is available by clicking the link on our Web site at www.CEMCpower.com.
We would like to thank all who participated and encourage members who have not responded to sign up before the deadline of May 9.”
