Sanford, N.C. - Scam Artists are targeting Cooperative Members in their latest attempt to collect money. South River EMC claims two of its members have received calls from a group out of Boston. The group says the individual is in danger of having his or her power disconnected and the only way to keep the lights on is by paying with a green pre-paid visa card. The mystery caller encourages the member to go to a nearby Kangaroo gas station, purchase the card, and then call back to make a payment. These claims are false. If you or someone you know receives one, please alert Central Electric and your local police department.
