Lightning and wind were the culprit of service interruptions for approximately 730 Central Electric members in the Pittsboro area of Chatham County during the early morning hours of Sunday, June 5. Outages began around 12:15 a.m. as a line of severe thunderstorms moved through the area. Approximately 600 members were restored by 2:30 a.m. after damage from a lightning strike was isolated at the Reid Harris substation. Crews continued to work through the morning to restore outages caused by downed tree limbs, with service being restored to all members by 8 a.m.
