Strong winds and heavy rain from a fast moving line of severe thunderstorms on Wednesday resulted in numerous scattered outages across the Central Electric system. Crews worked through the day on Wednesday into early Thursday morning, responding to downed trees that resulted in broken poles and electric lines on the ground.
At the peak of the storm response, over 2,000 members were without power, concentrating primarily in Chatham and Lee counties. Power was restored to a majority of members by midnight on Wednesday. High sustained winds overnight and into the morning kept crews busy as they worked to restore power to approximately 200 members who lost power at various times overnight.
Wind advisories remain in effect across Central North Carolina through Thursday afternoon, which could create additional outages. Crews remain on call to respond to any outage situations that may still occur. Outages can be reported 24 hours a day by calling 1-877-766-6769 and they can be tracked by visiting Central Electric’s Outage Center.
