Youth Tour deadline approaching
December 22nd, 2015
By James Taylor
Each year, Central Electric sponsors two rising high school juniors or seniors on the trip of a lifetime to Washington, D.C. in connection with the N.C. Electric Cooperative Youth Tour. While in D.C., they’ll join 1,500 other students from across the country to meet members of Congress and learn more about American history and the electric cooperative business model.
The Youth Tour serves to educate youth on rural electrification, provide an opportunity to visit historic monuments, government buildings and cooperative related organizations to become familiar with the nation’s historical and political environment. The trip also looks great on college applications, and participants will meet friends from all over the country.
The 2016 Youth Tour trip will be June 11-17 and the deadline to apply is Jan. 8. To qualify, applicants must be enrolled at one of Central Electric’s participating schools. Contact program coordinator, Janet Jackson, at (919) 708-1638, or visit the “Cooperative Youth Tour” section under the “Community” tab at CEMCPower.com to download the application or to find out more information on this incredible opportunity.
