Sanford, N.C., February 17, 2015 – Central Electric is on standby and ready to restore power should outages occur, but at this time none of our CEMC members are in the dark. However that isn’t the case for other electric co-ops in North Carolina. Around our state, approximately 18,000 members are without electricity as a result of the winter weather. North Carolina’s electric cooperatives serve more than 2.5 million people in 93 of the state’s 100 counties.
Keep in mind throughout the day, if a CEMC member loses power he or she is encouraged to call 1-877-766-6769. There may be longer wait times due to an increase in call volume. People can also monitor restoration progress on our website www.cemcpower.com. Click on the outage viewer.
Also if you see utility vehicles stopped on the side of the road, slow down and move over if possible. This not only keeps utility workers safe, but it’s the law. Downed power lines can be live and deadly! If you see one stay away and call your electric utility or 911.
