Sanford, N.C.,- December 5, 2015- Central Electric Membership Corporation (CEMC) is helping the Sanford-Lee County Airport Authority (SLCAA) soar! Thanks to efforts on the cooperative’s part, new jobs, a boost in fuel sales as well room to grow are on the horizon for the local airport.
As an electric cooperative, Central EMC holds concern for the community near and dear. Naturally when SLCAA, a CEMC member, called and asked for help Central readily accepted its request. Sanford-Lee County expressed a need for funding involving a project with the NC Forest Service. The cooperative provided a zero percent interest loan of $860,000.00 through Rural Economic Development Loan & Grant (REDLG), a program that gives funding to rural projects through local utility cooperatives.
The airport project calls for the purchase of a hangar, as well as the construction of two add-ons (a storage building and an office building). Altogether the plan will consolidate operations at the airport, serve as the base for five planes, allow for maintenance checks of 25 additional crafts and create or relocate eight jobs. Central Electric is honored to be a part of this project, which is expected to be complete by summer of 2015.
