Unclaimed Retirement Checks

Sanford, N.C., - February 21, 2014-Central Electric may be holding an unclaimed retirement check for you from 2010. The great thing about being a part of a cooperative is that our members are really “member-owners.” When Central EMC is able to do so, we take our excess expense funds, known as capital credits, and return them to our members; this way our customers are able to financially share in the success of the cooperative.
Central Electric makes every effort to locate the person entitled to the check. However, if a person cannot be found, the money goes into what is called the “escheat” fund in the N.C. State Treasurer’s office and after a period of time is used for the state’s education system.
It is important to look for yourself. Visit the Forms or Forms and Applications sections to see the list of names entitled to an unclaimed retirement check. If you see your name, call Central Electric at 800-446-7752 and ask for James. If you see the name of someone you know, please ask that person to contact Central Electric. We appreciate your help.
