Sanford, N.C., - January 29, 2014- Central Electric is looking for two qualified students to participate in the 2014 CEMC Cooperative Youth Tour. Held in Washington, D.C., the event attracts over 1,500 high school juniors and seniors from around the country. The purpose of the Youth Tour is to teach students about electric cooperatives, US history and government.
While in our nation’s capital, students will visit American monuments, government buildings, and cooperative related organizations. Plus, they’ll meet face to face with elected officials, in addition to learning about rural electrification and the political climate involved.
The trip is scheduled for June 14th-20th but the deadline to apply is March 15th by 5:00pm. To qualify, applicants must be a junior or senior at one of Central Electrics participating schools. Please contact program coordinator Janet Jackson for a list of those institutions as well as more information on the event. Call her at (919) 708-1638 or email at Jacksonj@cemcpower.com.
