Sanford, N.C., November 6, 2013 – Central Electric Membership Corporation believes strongly in its seven cooperative business principles, especially number seven- “Concern for the Community”. Regularly our cooperative searches for points of impact all over the Chatham, Harnett, Lee, Moore and Randolph areas. Recently it was brought to Central Electric’s attention that funding for Christians United Outreach Center of Lee County (CUOC) had been significantly cut this year. Immediately Central EMC stepped in to help!
CoBank, a cooperative bank which serves agribusiness, rural infrastructure providers and Farm Credit associations throughout the United States, offers a match grant opportunity known as the “Sharing Success Charitable Contribution Program”. In order to make a difference, Central nominated CUOC for this wonderful honor!
Here’s how it works: once a recipient is selected CoBank then provides an initial donation; while Central in turn matches it dollar for dollar. This year Central Electric along with CoBank awarded CUOC $2,000 to use towards replenishing the group’s food pantries.
Christians United Outreach Center of Lee County is a faith based ministry located in Sanford, NC. In 2012 alone CUOC distributed over 13,500 boxes of food to almost three thousand families, that’s almost 600,000 pounds of food. You can find out more about this great organization as well as CoBank’s “Sharing Success” program on our website www.cemcpower.com.
