Sanford, N.C., August 27, 2013 – Central Electric as well as three other cooperatives met with Second District Representative Renee Ellmers, Tuesday to discuss several congressional issues that could affect cooperative members. Some of the topics discussed include: climate change, coal ash, the farm bill, pension flexibility as well as immigration reform. Congresswoman Ellmers listened intently to the cooperative viewpoint and then shared hers during the round table. Overall the one-on-one meeting went well and Ellmers said repeatedly that she loves working with electric cooperatives.
Legislator Ellmers is in her sophomore season as representative of North Carolina’s second district. Recently she was elected to the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which is a great place to share her constituents’ viewpoints.
While Ellmers lives in Harnett County, she represents people from Alamance, Chatham, Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, Lee, Moore, Randolph, and Wake Counties.
