Sanford, N.C., April 22, 2013–Central Electric is proud to announce the winners of its annual Touchstone Energy Basketball Camp Scholarships: Seth Rison of Pittsboro and Christiana McLean of Aberdeen.
Rison will attend Roy Williams’ Basketball Clinic in Chapel Hill, NC this summer June 15-19; while McLean is scheduled to participate in the N.C. State Women’s Basketball Camp in Raleigh, August 1-4.
These all- expense paid scholarships, sponsored by North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy cooperatives, are only awarded to 26 young men and women across the state each year. Both scholarships provide a one-of-a-kind educational and athletic opportunity to our state’s youth and reflect Touchstone Energy’s core values of accountability, integrity, innovation and commitment to community.
At camp, students will work directly with the players and coaches to learn basketball skills and about leadership and teamwork. To apply, students must be in the sixth, seventh or eighth grade during the upcoming 2013-2014 school year. Applicants must have permission from a parent or guardian to attend the overnight camp and must provide their own transportation to and from the event if selected to attend.
“These scholarships are a fantastic way for young athletes to experience life on a college campus and learn from mentors at their favorite NCAA athletic programs,” said Janet Jackson, Energy Use and Information Specialist at Central EMC. “We’re proud to continue the tradition of providing this opportunity for outstanding students to develop life skills that will help them excel on and off the court.”
Applications and more information on the scholarships can be found at www.cemcpower.com or by contacting Janet Jackson at (919) 708-1638. North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy cooperatives will award more than 50 sports camp scholarships to students statewide this year.
