Sanford, N.C., October 29, 2012 – The Pole Top Rescue competition previously
scheduled for Oct. 30, has been postponed to Nov. 27 because of
Hurricane Sandy. Harris Morrison, a lineman at Central EMC was scheduled to
join 25 other electric cooperative line workers from across the state this
coming Tuesday in a competition that pits them against the clock as they
demonstrate essential life saving skills.
However, many of the competitors scheduled to
participate in the event, including Harris Morrison, are in Virginia working
with Central Virginia Electric Cooperative to restore power along our coast and
out of state. The Pole Top Rescue competition is now scheduled for Nov. 27.
of crews is part of a mutual aid agreement shared between the nation’s nearly
1,000 electric cooperatives to help one another in times of emergency, like
natural disasters. Electric cooperatives across the country use the same line
system engineering standards, which means line crews from any part of the
country can quickly help sister cooperatives with restoration efforts.
